Have we opened the pandora's box (with this movie)?

Set 150 years in the future, mankind pitches camp on an alien planet called Pandora, a steaming, tropical orb-of-death filled with chewing teeth and tribal spears.

Pandora, the name of the planet also has meaning. There are many variants of this story of Pandora (the giver of all). In Greek mythology, the most common story is when somebody’s curiosity gets the better of them. After they have opened the pandora's box, relentless problems occur. This is portrayed by the main female role of Neytiri, when she brings in an outsider (a Human) into their community. When she opened the pandora's box, metaphysically speaking, evils including death, disease and sorrow flew out of the jar before she could slam the lid back on The only good thing to come out of the jar was hope. What at first seemed to Neytiri to be a betrayer, turned out in the end to be their saviour.

A private corporation, backed up with mercenary muscle colonel Miles Quaritch who has discovered a mineral called “Unobtainium”, an energy rich rock that will solve all the energy problems back on Earth. Sounds familiar? The military have been given the order to ship this rock to planet Earth. The topic also reminded me of the slave race that was created by Enki in order to crawl into the deep earth to mine gold on our virgin planet during the Lemurian times.

The armed forces that came to raid the planet of their valuables, experienced one problem after another. The native tribe of lanky blue humanoids called the Na’vi have a spiritual connection with a huge tree which is right above a huge lode of Unobtainium.

When his brother is killed in battle, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake agrees to infiltrate the Na'vi community using a genetically modified Avatar to gather intel for the co-operating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch. Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.

There was a strong sense of community in the film, shared suffering, cultural understanding, and a devotion to honesty, all of which are so important to our own global human community. We don't have much time left to learn these important lessons, so let this movie be the start of a new trend. Let's start listening to the trees, plants, and all the animals, and become at one with them, like the Na’vi people of Pandora....
