This is just a general guide for food production and survival in diverse
places within the northern hemisphere under difficult climatic changes,
bearing in mind that: “All are but parts of one gigantic
soul, nature is the heart and man the soul”.
Most important will be the daily Essene attunements with the high angelic
forces and the practise at sunrise and sunset of Agni Hotra. Remember
to tune in to the divas and nature spirits each day and give thanks for
their help.
Invaluable advice will be found in the following books which I would advise
everyone to read at this time. “Small is Beautiful”
by Schumacher.
“Secrets of the Soil” by Peter Thompson Christopher
Bird (New Age Solutions for Restoring Our Planet.) The book includes a
chapter on Perelandra, the garden created by Machaelle Smallwright under
the direction of the elemental kingdom and found in Virginia's Blue Ridge
mountain area, USA. Further information to be found at their website:www.perelandra-ltd.com/
“Organic Gardening, The Natural No Dig Way”
by Charles Dowding.
Virgin soil will need initial ploughing or digging, from then on this
should not be necessary providing the soil is built up with plentiful
compost. From mid October to mid November compost, leaf mould or even
grass mowings should be applied to the soil surface when the moon is descending.
At this time of year the soil micro organisms multiply, these are the
algae, fungi and bacteria that dwell in the upper reaches of the soil.
Their job is to transform organic matter into friable soil. If organic
matter is added later than mid Novemeber, some leaching takes place and
nitrogen as nitrates seep deep into the soil. From mid November and all
December, leave the soil alone.
My understanding is that as the higher energies raise our consciousness
we shall require much less food and that the animal kingdom will be released
from the servitude we have imposed upon them and we shall adapt to veganism.
A few sheep would be useful as a source of wool for clothing, blankets
etc. A few cows, preferably organically reared for health would give a
modest supply of milk and also for dry dung for Agni Hotra! Goats are
healthier than cows and have their uses because being browsers they thrive
on thistles, thorns, holly, ivy and just about everything else! Because
of this they will need tethering. However they require less food and their
health has been less interfered with from poisoned pastures, anti-biotics
and pressure to produce high milk yields. Their milk is highly digestible
and their lactations will linger on for several years without needing
a visit to the Billy!
It would be as well to plant nut trees, apples plum and pear trees. Make
use of all the wild fruits in the areas, such as blackberries, bilberries,
cranberries, wild raspberries and wild strawberries.(the latter much prised
by the native Americans for their health giving properties. Common chickweed
(stellaria media) has many virtues, It is rich in copper makes a good
salad ingredient. Medically it is brilliant as a poultice for abscesses
and drawing poison from festering wounds. All herbs have their uses I
mention three more whose uses are multiple and invaluable. Comfrey, Rosemary
and Elder. The latter is a must, every part of it can be used medicinally
and if available , under an elder tree is the ideal site for the compost
heap as its roots give off excretions which along with its leaves help
the heap ferment and thus make a particularly good compost.
The most promising way forward once groups have found a favourable site
within a ‘safe’ area, would be to work within Bio-dynamic
outlines. Making use of Maria Thun’s well proven annual calendar
which is based on the moon’s monthly passage through the zodiac,
for approx 14 days the moon is rising in an ascending arc until it reaches
Gemini, then for the next 14 days it is descending. As it passes through
each sphere of the zodiac the moon transmits back to earth the energies
of the sphere through which it is passing.
It is common knowledge that the zodiac represents the four elements, Earth,
air, fire and water. An increasing number of us are also aware
that on the moons passage through the zodiac, she is transmitting back
to earth the energies of the cosmos through these same elements.
On her passage through the three earth constellations, Capricorn, Taurus
and Virgo, the moon is radiating to earth the energies
which stimulate the roots of plants. This then is the best time to sow,
plant, and harvest for storage all root crops and potatoes.
Under the water signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces the
influence is on the leaf making this the ideal time to sow and hoe lettuces,
brassicas, spinach parsley etc. Everything picked on these days wilts
quickly so do not use these times for storage.
The air signs are Acquarius, Gemini and Libra. These
are flower days. Flowers picked at this time last longer and have the
best scent.
Fire signs, Aries. Leo and Sagittarius are ideal for
sowing, planting and harvesting fruit. The keeping quality of fruit and
the flavour is excellent.
As well as fruit, legumes all peas and beans, tomatoes, courgettes, and
aubergines are included.
Under an ascending moon as well as picking and storing fruit, find time
to take cuttings which will root easily because the sap is rising. Grafting
is also advisable at this time.
Under a descending time prune, lay hedges, dig in green manures and transplant.
Rooting will take place quickly and in dry periods there will be only
a minor check to growth.
Ideally everything that grows above ground should be sown in the morning,
because at this time the forces of nature are working in the upper parts
of plants because this living being the earth is breathing IN.
Take advantage of this fact in dry periods to do any hoeing as
this will help to retain water in the soil.
Conversely afternoon is the best time to hoe root crops, at this time
the forces I Bad times to work the soil or sow and plant are at PERIGEE.
This is the point when the moon is nearest earth. At this point growth
is checked so plants can be stunted and more vulnerable to stress, aphis
attack and disease.
Another time to avoid is APOGEE, the point at which the moon is at it
farthest point from earth. Plants are drawn up and become spindly, any
seed produced is small.
Other negative times are when planets meet at NODES, (crossing points.)These
are also times when accidents are more likely to occur!
Hoeing on the wrong day can alter the whole composition of plants as demonstrated
in Germany when tests were done with spinach which had been sown and subsequently
cultivated on root days (so that no leaf influence had come through to
it.) readings taken showed very high nitrate levels to be present. Other
tests were done by sowing and hoeing on the correct leaf days. Tests showed
this spinach to have a very low in nitrates and to be high in iron and
sugar; obviously a much more palatable and nutritious product! In every
other aspect conditions had been identical.
The heart of farm and garden should be the compost heap, it forms a focus
through which the forces from the cosmos can work harmoniously so long
as the heat is kept up. Just about everything can go on it. Every so often
add a layer of cow or chicken dung to vegetable matter along with a sprinkling
of seaweed meal, wood ash or rock powder.
Certain herbs are valuable additions since they can rectify any soil deficiencies.
Borage can supply calcium, potassium and mineral salts. Comfrey calcium
and nitrogen, nettles are most helpful supplying nitrogen iron silica
and phosphates
Contact the BDAA for information on their preparations which are used
to stimulate and enhance the cosmic forces working in the soil as well
as those rising from within the earth herself. Their website is excellent:www.biodynamic.org.uk
I will conclude this by saying make a habit of blessing everything that
you sow. It does make a difference! Forty years ago I did experiments
with boxes of newly sown seeds, two boxes of each variety. I left one
of each set of boxes unblessed and I found that those blessed had a head
start and throve better than the unblessed.
